ROLE OEVERVIEW

REACH Somalia is seeking a (Senior) Analyst to support the delivery of concise, actionable analysis on acute humanitarian needs at both national and sub-national levels. At a time when the humanitarian system is facing unprecedented constraints, this role will be critical in ensuring that increasingly scarce resources are prioritised according to evidence of need.

The (Senior) Analyst role offers a unique opportunity to produce analysis that directly informs humanitarian prioritisation and decision-making processes, including—but not limited to—the Humanitarian Programme Cycle (HPC), Humanitarian Needs and Response Plans (HNRPs), and donor resource allocation. Analysts will be responsible for reviewing and synthesising diverse data sources, conducting structured analysis in line with IMPACT’s global analytical guidance, and producing short, high-impact analytical outputs. This will involve close collaboration with GIS, data, and design colleagues to ensure that findings are communicated clearly and effectively, including through visual products where appropriate.

The role is well suited to technically strong staff who are comfortable working with large and complex datasets, while also able to situate their analysis within the broader humanitarian context to maximise operational relevance and impact. Depending on seniority and organisational priorities, the role may include contributing to Acute Needs Analysis, supporting the establishment of a national Needs Analysis Working Group, developing and maintaining sub-national Real-Time Monitoring systems to support Area-Based Coordination, and helping to ensure that the extensive data collected by REACH in Somalia is translated into timely, decision-oriented insights.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

The (Senior) Analyst will lead the delivery of REACH Somalia’s analytical work on acute humanitarian needs at national and sub-national levels. This includes contributions to emerging analytical systems that support prioritisation and area-based coordination. Key responsibilities include:

  • Support the development of a national Needs Analysis Working Group (NAWG) with OCHA, working alongside the Analysis Specialist to contribute to analytical framework design, aimed at regular intersectoral analysis and decision-oriented outputs for the ICCG and HPC.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of the Real-Time Monitoring (RTM) system to support Area-Based Coordination, including synthesis of multiple data sources and support to joint analysis with ABC partners.
  • Review, synthesise, and assess secondary data from REACH, UN agencies, INGOs, and public sources, identifying data gaps
  • Build contextual understanding and stakeholder networks at national and sub-national levels to ensure outputs are relevant, credible, and aligned with decision-making needs.
  • Lead structured analysis using IMPACT’s global Acute Needs Analysis guidance and defined framework, and translate findings into concise, high-impact outputs.
  • Draft and disseminate analytical products in collaboration with GIS, data, and assessment colleagues, and potentially present findings to coordination fora and donors, as required.
  • Ensure effective use of existing REACH data collected in Somalia and contribute to learning and methodological improvements for future analytical work.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills: experience interpreting complex data and the ability to evaluate the quality of different data sources.
  • Understanding of humanitarian coordination system: understanding of the HPC and inter-agency needs analysis and assessments, and experience engaging with a variety of stakeholders (clusters, donors, UN agencies) across the humanitarian response.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills: a proven ability to identify trends, contextualize findings, and synthesise complex information into actionable insights for diverse humanitarian audiences.
  • Strong writing skills: experience producing clear, concise outputs for humanitarian audiences which combine text and visuals for maximum impact.
  • Delivering at pace: the proven ability to manage workflows and deliver high-quality outputs under tight deadlines.
  • Resilience, sound judgment, and emotional intelligence: comfortable with working autonomously and with limited direction. Patience when things don’t go your way, and the resilience to continue in difficult situations.
  • Prior experience in Somalia would be a strong asset.
  • Note, the role can be at Senior Analyst or Analyst level, based on the experience of the candidate.
