Job Description:

Project Coordinator-Nutrition

The Role:

The Project Coordinator will be tasked to oversee the field level implementation of WFP Nutrition project activities in target location as per national and international standards. The Project Coordinator-Nutrition will also be responsible for the supervision and support of nutrition officers and works closely with commodity team to ensure the commodities received from WFP are managed properly. The Project Coordinator will lead the implementation of the WFP supported TSFP and BSFP project, along with other health and nutrition initiatives in Southwest, Jubbaland, and Hirshabelle States. This role involves day-to-day management of project activities, providing leadership and support to the nutrition staff, and ensuring integration with World Vision’s strategic programming.

The Nutrition Coordinator will also focus on capacity building and technical support for staff, partners, and community members, enhancing overall nutrition outcomes and promoting sustainable practices in the region.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Ensure all staff understand and implement national Somali guidelines of acute malnutrition (IMAM protocols) used in the treatment of the acutely malnourished (including: register, beneficiaries’ cards, adherence to admission/discharge criteria, anthropometric measurements, medical follow up, effective appetite test, drugs and nutritional products given etc.)
  • The Nutrition Coordinator (in consultation with the Nutrition Coordinator and Officers) will make an informed decision and take appropriate need-based actions including referrals, discharge to another services (from OTP to TSFP) or to the community (from TSFP to community)
  • Organize and facilitate training to the project staff, community nutrition volunteers and MOH staff on the key areas including SCOPE, IMAM protocols, commodity management and aid diversion mitigation and ensure adherence of these protocols and procedures during project implementation
  • Design and adopt the implementation of post aid distribution standard procedures to mitigate risk of aid diversion at all levels
  • Acquaint oneself on the project outputs, indicators, activities and budget to ensure smooth implementation of activities
  • Work with the Health & Nutrition Manager and project staff to develop project management tools including; Detailed implementation plan, procurement plan, budget spending plan and monitoring plan.
  • Ensure that all stakeholders of the project (community, ministry of health, partners) have detailed understanding of the project and participate in the implementation
  • Ensure timely and quality implementation of project activities
  • Ensure procurement & recruitment processes are initiated on timely manner
  • Work with the Health & Nutrition manager in the management of project budget to ensure project expenditure as per project plan
  • Work with the H&N manager and DME staff to ensure that appropriate M&E system are in place
  • Draft and submit quality and accurate internal and donor report on the timely manner
  • Ensure all relevant information from all the project are accurately filed and lessons learned are documented
  • Ensure appropriate financial systems, procedures and controls are used in the effective project management
  • Facilitate preparation of project budgets, narrative reports, updates, financial reports including monthly invoices to WFP area offices and submit them within the agreed time frames.
  • Provide on the on-the-job training, guidance and support for WV and MOH staff and community volunteers
  • Staff performance review and appraisals done and clear performance goals agreed upon.
  • Contribute the mainstreaming of GBV and child protection issues in WV Somalia programs, particularly in health, nutrition, resilience and livelihoods and food programming

 

Essential:

  • Bachelor Degree in Public Health, Nursing, Nutrition or any other related fields.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in managing health/nutrition projects preferably maternal and child health services.
  • Project management experience is an added advantage
  • Experience in the management of health services in humanitarian organization
  • Solid experience in training and capacity building experience, particularly using participatory approaches and methods in for training
  • Professional experience related to behavior change communication and health promotion projects
  • Fluent in English (written & spoken) and Somali.
  • Experience in writing donor and internal reports
  • Good computer skill especially Microsoft office. Data management experience is an added advantage
  • Good knowledge of WFP programme design and implementation including SCOPE registration, nutrition, relief projects and referral pathways.

 

Working Environment:

The position is field-based in Baidoa, South West State with frequent travel to field operation areas required.
