Job Description:
The Communications and Marketing Manager (C&MM) will increase trust and strengthen World Vision Somalia’s reputation, The role provides strategic marketing and communications leadership, ensuring business planning alignment with the national office strategy and global marketing and communications strategic objectives, including the Ignite framework (ignite content global voices, and staff).
They will lead on the development and dissemination of media, marketing, and communications outcomes and materials, ensuring that communication efforts support priority initiatives. They will promote alignment with partnership standards, update technical databases, monitor the organization’s reputation, and advise leadership on communication and reputational issues.
Major Job Responsibilities:
(a) Communications Strategy/Business Planning and Implementation
- Develop, implement and monitor annual communications plans aligned to national office fundraising strategy
- Provide copy-editing services for all projects and programs, including research and learning, program briefs, etc.
- Impact-led content drives and grows engagement with key audiences, demonstrating World Vision expertise
- Emergency communications content is available and timely, serving advocacy, marketing, and fundraising needs
- Assist departments, such as operations, in the design, pretesting, finalization and timely production of Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials for prevention of PDAD, Social Behavior Change Communication materials, Humanitarian accountability etc.
- Support the planning and execution of global observances like World Health Day and the Day of the African Child.
- Field, Technical Programme, Grant, Emergency communications are resourced, staffed, and focused - to deliver high-value content that is used internally and externally
(b) Compelling and High-Quality Evidence-based Documentation/Content
- Regularly update marketing materials, including slide decks and branded merchandise;
- Support the development of new marketing methods and platforms to support local fund-raising;
- Develop and sustain effective relationships with media at all levels to engage more effectively on issues of children and their development in fragile contexts
- Ensure development of emergency and advocacy-oriented communications to support global advocacy campaigns, and increase public discussion and fund-raising initiatives.
(c) World Vision Aligns with Partnership and Donor Requirements and Manages Reputational Risks
- Develop donors-specific communication plans and coordinate communication team resources to deliver them;
- Sensitive and responsive mechanisms in place to monitor the organization’s reputation and pro-actively address emergent risks;
- Ensure branding standards are adhered to and exceptions to policy communicated with partnership and understood by Support Offices;
- Ensure systems are in place to regularly update Story Hub and other partnership portals, ensuring high visibility for the organization’s content;
- Prepare World Vision Somalia stories for IGNITE and other relevant internal publications to raise program visibility;
- Manage department resources to ensure effective and efficient use of communications resources.
(d) Organizational Capacity Developed to Generate
- Develop and deliver communication curriculum to field leadership and management;
- Establish a cadre of communication focal points, equip them with technology to generate content, support messaging development;
- Oversee protocols such as field visit SoP, create awareness and use it to guide joint planning and implementation to facilitate Support Office, media and other field trips.
(e) Team Management
- Recruit, motivate and retain high-caliber team;
- Establish a performance plan, provide regular and timely feedback, reward performance, and take remedial actions if required.
- Identify capacity-building opportunities and channel resources to service needs.
Required Education, Knowledge/Qualifications For The Role:
- Degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Media, Journalism, Arts or similar
- Professional certifications in any of the technical areas of communications, marketing, humanitarian, and development sectors are advantageous.
- 7 years or more of professional experience in communications and marketing in a multi-cultural, non-profit/humanitarian and development setting
- Experience creating multimedia content for digital, and social media platforms
- Website and social media management experience
- Experience in media, marketing, humanitarian, and advocacy communications
- Ability to use audio, photography, and video equipment to produce compelling storytelling
- Graphic design skills are an advantage
- Evidence of technical skills in video, multimedia content, and photos (shortlisted candidates will be required to provide a sample of their own production)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including strong editing and proofreading skills
- Ability to translate complex technical language and ideas into language easily comprehensible for external engagement
- Familiarity with fund-raising techniques including proposal writing and public engagement
- Proven ability to manage and grow a team
- Proven experience training and capacity building of others.
Travel, Language, and/or Work Environment Requirement
- Field based
- Fluency in English. Fluency in Somali a preference
