POLISH HUMANITARIAN ACTION IS LOOKING FOR SECURITY AND SAFETY OFFICER

Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH) is a non-governmental organization which mission it is to make the world a better place. For over 20 years, we have been providing relief in big and small emergencies worldwide alongside with running long-term missions in several countries in crisis.
Our interventions – of both humanitarian and development character– have been carried out in 44 countries so far. Our focus is on ensuring sustainable and stable development of regions suffering the consequences of war and/or natural disasters. PAH Mission in Somalia:
PAH has been present in Somalia since 2011. With WASH, FSL and Nutrition programs PAH supported people from the most vulnerable communities in different regions in Somalia. Our primary focus is to provide safe drinking water through rehabilitation of water infrastructure, constructing water distribution systems, and constructing rainwater reservoirs. In our work we also focus on other WASH components such as improvement of sanitary conditions, hygiene promotion to make our WASH interventions fully comprehensive. Our current donors are ECHO, ARCHENOVA, SHF and UNICEF. PAH programs target the most vulnerable IDPs, host and rural communities as well as institutions in Banadir, Lower Shebelle, Middle Shebelle and Galmudug Region.
PAH in Somalia is looking for a SECURITY AND SAFETY OFFICER who will become part of the Team with the following responsibilities:
Key responsibilities
• Under the guidance of Security Coordinator, provide timely advice and guidance to PAH staff members regarding security and risk awareness by monitoring the security situation, identifying, collecting, analyzing and disseminating information relating to the context with focus on impacts to the staff, programs and assets.
• Assist PAH security Coordinator to evaluate, review and update the security plans and procedures on a regular basis in compliance with PAH global safety and security standards and requirements.
• Develop and maintain close contacts with all relevant stakeholders and actors on matters related to safety and security
• Conduct continuous risk and threat assessment of existing locations for PAH programming and make necessary adjustments where essential.
• Support Security Coordinator in overseeing security assessments and development of security systems for new programme locations and areas within the country
• Conduct risk assessments of contracted and prospective offices and residences. Follow up on actions to be taken to ensure compliance with safety and security standards
• Conduct briefing and orientation of the new staff and visitors on safety and security matters upon arrival.
• Attend locally and nationally convened security coordination meetings as appropriate, such as INSO.
• Develop and maintain incident reporting systems, make lessons of the security incident trends and advise the staff accordingly
• Perform other duties assigned.
Experiences and Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, international relations, security management or equivalent qualification in related field of study. ( Education qualification may be relaxed for experienced candidates with specialist technical trainings in safety and security management)
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience at a position with a similar work responsibility.
• A minimum of 2 years’ experience in assisting a non-profit organization in safety and security programs.
• Excellent knowledge of the political, security, economic, social and cultural environment in Somalia and good networking within Somalia.
• Ability to speak and clearly communicate in English and Somali
• Analytical skills, foresight and the ability to identify solutions.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of, and ability to create security plans, procedures, strategies.
• Good interpersonal skills, both in bilateral and multilateral contacts.
• Flexibility and willingness to travel extensively in Somalia.
