Renewable Energy Instructors

BACKGROUND

The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of the Federal Republic of Somalia is mandated to govern, develop, coordinate, and oversee all vocational training programs. This sub-sector plays a pivotal role in the nation’s development by rehabilitating the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system. This system, vital and indispensable for the country’s progress, requires significant attention and reform. In partnership with the African Development Bank (ADB), the government has launched the Skills for Employability, Inclusion, and Productivity Project (SEIP) to address these challenges. This project, a beacon of hope for the TVET sector, is poised to bring about a significant and transformative change. The primary goal of the SEIP project is to strengthen technical and vocational skills development to enhance youth employability and contribute to inclusive economic growth.

As a MoLSA project, the NISVT needs highly qualified individuals to fill the crucial roles of Master Trainers and TVET Instructors. These positions are of utmost importance in delivering high-quality training programs and preparing students for successful careers in eight vocational fields, particularly in the context of the SEIP project.

Recruitment Objectives

The IVTC is dedicated to improving vocational training system in Somalia. In line with this commitment, selected Renewable Energy Trainers will undergo comprehensive training in vocational pedagogy, the use of teaching and learning materials, concepts, and philosophies of vocational instruction. They will also receive instructions on how to practice training methodologies to help other instructors choose strategies and techniques to deliver training.

General Responsibilities

  • Apply learner centric, action oriented approach, deliver training assignments as per the curricula using competency-based training model.
  • Mentor and coach students during practical, theoretical sessions, in the workshop, on-site training, and in industrial apprenticeship training.
  • Maintain a good documentation and student records.
  • Conduct regular assessments during the training and evaluate student grades, tests and assignments, final exams, and Prepare post training report and summary of student assessments.
  •  Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress report concerning training achievements and submit them on time;
  • Adhere to Center specific rules and regulations of code of conduct.
  •  Participate in curriculum development related tasks;
  • Attend professional development opportunities and instructor training both pre-and in-services teacher trainings;
  • Conduct demonstrations, hans-on activities, teach trade technology theories, and perform group activities and discussions to the deliver trade concepts;
  • Create lesson plans, develop course syllabi and course outline and select right training supporting materials;
  • Organize and monitor student participation in extra-curricular activities, such as visits, competitions and internships
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest occupational trends, tools, and technologies;
  • Promote and enforce safety standards and practices in alignment with industry regulations and vocational training guidelines;
  • Deliver high-quality theoretical and practical training sessions to students, ensuring mastery of essential skills related to trade, operations and products;
  • Conduct hands-on training sessions in the lab or workshop environment, ensuring students can effectively apply learned skills in real-world scenarios;
  • Assist in the development of promotional materials for the training programs and assist in the recruitment of students;
  • Work with business and industry to develop relationships and support for the development of internship and apprenticeship programs;
  • Cooperate with the other team of instructors in developing the course description, program design and the process of delivering the course, with a firm insight into the course content and structure of the course;
  • Explore initiatives and innovations to contribute to the department and Center development plans, equipment, and facilities maintenance in promoting a safe and conducive learning environment.
  • Contribute to Training Center’s culture that is positive, purposeful, ethical, and professional

Specific Responsibilities for Renewable Energy Trainers 

  • Proven ability to effectively deliver technical information and teach courses within the Renewable Energy Department including wind, blade repair, solar, drone, and substation courses;
  • Strong understanding of solar PV systems, wind turbine mechanic, battery storage technologies, and associated electrical systems;
  • Sound knowledge of safety protocols related to working with electrical maintenance and on-site construction;
  • Familiarity with renewable energy technologies such as solar, wind, and bioenergy systems.
  • Proficiency in energy modeling and efficiency analysis software.
  • Competence in safety training protocols related to renewable energy installations.
  • Creating lesson plans that cover the fundamentals of renewable energy technologies, safety procedures, system design, installation techniques, troubling shooting, and maintenance practices.
  • Lead lectures and discussions on renewable energy concepts, technical calculations, electrical and electronic theory, and relevant industry standards.
  • Guide students through hans-on exercises in labs or on-site projects, such as solar panel installation, wiring, system monitoring, and wind turbine maintenance
  • Keep abreast of new technologies, regulations, and advancements in the sector to incorporate into the curriculum

Workload 

–        40 hrs per week in teaching during the academic year. More task at the discretion of the center instructor schedules will be subject to the discretion of center management.

Qualifications

The ideal candidates for Entrepreneurship Instructors should have the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Renewable Energy, Electric Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline;
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience in instructional training or a relevant Renewable Energy environment;
  • Completion of specialized instructor training courses (desired);
  • Teaching certification or credentials in Entreprenuership skills;
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
  • Proficiency in using essential basic computer skills and working knowledge of vocational training and educational technology softwares;
  • Commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
  • Experience working in the Renewable Energy industry for 5 year

Key Deliverables

As an Renewable Energy instructor/master trainer, you will handle instructing students in various aspects of Renewable Energy like solar power, wind energy, hydro power, energy sources and storage, biomass, wave power, site assessment, project development, system design, installation, maintenance, grid integration, policy understanding, environmental impact analysis, and communication skills. You will teach principles, methodologies, and practices used in various Renewable energy fields.

Technical skills: expertise in system design, component selection, sizing calculations, electrical engineering principles, power electronics, and grid interconnection procedures,

Site analysis: ability to assess potential renewable energy sites, including environmental factors, weather patterns, land use, and grid access.
