Marina Seafood is a fully integrated fishing and seafood processing company headquartered in Mogadishu, Somalia. We manage the complete seafood supply chain from harvest to distribution, delivering high-quality, sustainably sourced seafood to local and international markets. Our operations feature a state-of-the-art processing facility, a modern deep-sea fishing fleet, and cold chain infrastructure.

Position Overview

The processing plant manager plays a pivotal strategic role within Marina Seafood, overseeing all aspects of our seafood processing operations. This position is responsible for ensuring all operational, product quality, regulatory compliance, and workforce productivity while driving continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will balance technical expertise with leadership skills to optimise plant performance, maintain strict quality standards, and contribute to the company’s growth objectives.

 

Responsibilities

Operational Management

● Direct daily operations of the processing facility, ensuring efficient workflow, production scheduling, and resource allocation.

● Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPS) to optimise processing efficiency.

● Monitor production metrics and implement process improvements to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and control costs.

● Oversee equipment maintenance programs to ensure optimal functionality.

● Coordinate logistics for incoming raw materials and outgoing processed products.

Quality Assurance

● Ensure strict adherence to all relevant food safety protocols.

● Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to maintain rigorous quality control throughout the processing chain.

● Stay current with evolving international regulations and standards for seafood processing and export.

● Manage food safety audits and maintain required certifications.

● Implement traceability systems and documentation procedures.

Team Leadership & Workforce Development

● Build, train, and mentor a high-performing team capable of meeting production targets and quality standards.

● Develop training programs to enhance employee skills and ensure compliance with safety protocols.

● Manage staff scheduling, performance evaluation, and career development.

● Foster a positive workplace culture that emphasises safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Resource Management

● Monitor key performance indicators and implement corrective actions when necessary.

● Optimise resource utilisation to minimise operational costs.

● Identify cost-saving opportunities across processing operations.

Strategic Input

● Contribute to company growth strategies with insights on processing capabilities and expansion opportunities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

● Bachelor’s degree in food science, marine biology, industrial engineering, or a related field.

● Minimum of 10 years of experience in seafood and fisheries processing management.

● Experience in processing demersal & pelagic fisheries is a MUST (i.e. Tuna).

● Experience with international quality certifications and export requirements (HACCP, ISO 22000

, IFS, etc)

Technical Knowledge

● In-depth understanding of seafood processing techniques, including filleting, freezing, and value-added processing.

● Proficiency in food safety management systems and quality control protocols.

● Working knowledge of processing equipment.

● Familiarity with inventory management systems and production planning software.

● Understanding of cold chain management and seafood preservation techniques.

Leadership & Management Skills

● Strong leadership abilities with experience managing diverse teams

● Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions under pressure

● Effective communication skills in English.

● Strong project management capabilities.

● Analytical thinking with attention to detail.

● Ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
