A consultant to conduct an assignment on best practices, lessons learnt and success story documentation.

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is a global humanitarian organization with a mission to work with people in poverty and distress to create just and positive change. ADRA Somalia belongs to the worldwide network, comprised of more than 130 supporting and implementing country offices. ADRA Somalia is seeking to recruit a consultant to conduct an assignment on best practices, lessons learnt and success story documentation.

Objective of the Video and Photo Documentary

The primary objective of the video and photo documentary is to capture and share success stories from this education intervention which was implemented in Somalia. The documentation aims to showcase the positive impact of this project, highlighting key achievements and transformative experiences. The images and videos produced will serve as powerful storytelling tools, illustrating the project’s success across various platforms, including publications, websites, newsletters, social media, and institutional magazines. This visual content will not only enhance visibility but also support advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and future program development.

Target Audience of the Video and Photo Documentary
The video and photo documentary are intended to reach a diverse audience, including the international community, education actors, and members of the Education Sector/Cluster. It will also engage key stakeholders such as the Somali government, the Somali diaspora, and local communities, including children, youth, parents, and educators. By showcasing the impact of the education interventions, the documentary aims to inform, inspire, and mobilize support from these audiences, fostering greater collaboration and investment in Somalia’s education sector.

Deliverables
1. Five (5) short videos (approximately 1.5 minutes in length for each video), showcasing the education project support and achievements through school footage and interviews with beneficiaries and government counterparts.
The five short video documentaries will capture key thematic results, successes and challenges, best practices and lessons learnt from support to education in Somalia, in each sector theme. The documentaries will be produced in two versions: English version and Somali version.

2. Generate video interview materials involving Somali officials, the donor, and beneficiaries to demonstrate impact and raise visibility of the sector.
These interviews will serve as a powerful tool to showcase success stories, provide firsthand accounts of the project’s influence, and enhance visibility within the education sector. The content will be strategically designed to engage stakeholders, promote advocacy, and encourage further support for educational development in Somalia.

3. 100 High quality photos showcasing education project achievements and support in Somalia.
Photo material collected should not be less than 10MB in size and should include horizontal and vertical photos of same subjects; dramatic angles; close-ups, midrange, and wide-angle shots; drone-shots where possible, portraits, group photos and illustrations of projects (including school infrastructure and learners/trainees).

4. Website and Social Media Features showcasing education achievements and support in Somalia.
A website and social media feature will be produced, to be published on partner websites and social media pages.

Key Considerations:
All photographs and videos must be accompanied by:
i. Short descriptions of the situation: what, where, when, who.
ii. Names of all people portrayed in the material, and other additional information, such as age, occupation, short quote (to be specified in each brief) and signed consents where applicable.

The photo files will be delivered in TIFF, PNG and JPEG, with minimal retouching, print quality high Resolution. The video files will be in MPEG4 or .MOV with no editing or retouching. All materials (videos and photos) will be shot at 16:9, HD 1080p. The framerates will be decided prior to filming/shooting.

In addition, the Consultant will also submit the following outputs:
A, 1 Hard Disk Drive containing all raw video footage compiled during the site visits
B, 1 Hard Disk Drive containing all raw video footage compiled during site visits
C, 1 Hard Disk Drive containing still photographs of all the sites visited
D, Three (3) action-oriented photobooks detailing the achievements and successes of the project

Qualifications of the Consultant
• The consultant should have extensive experience in producing public information video films or TV programs, relating to social programs, preferably on education.
• He/she must have prior experience in photographing similar projects/activities – minimum of 5 years.
• He/she must use own high quality, light, sound videography and photography equipment capable of delivering high resolution files.
• Experience working with international organizations and/or international donors as well as state institutions, NGOs and local authorities. Previous work experience in Somalia will be an advantage.
• Excellent technical capacities to ensure high quality video and photography production.
• Excellent planning and organizational skills
• Ability to work under minimum supervision, in a difficult working environment.

Technical Equipment requirements
• Broadcast quality full HD video.
• Professional and high-quality sound recording, lapel mic should be used for interviews.
• High quality cameras, not less than 720 pixels.
• Works with Premier Pro Editing software and equipment.
• Use of gimbal for stable footage.
• Adequate lighting set where necessary.

– Cover letter, maximum three pages.
– Detailed curriculum vitae.
– Technical Proposal: maximum 5 pages interpreting the understanding of the TOR, detailed methodology of executing the task, as well as draft work plan.
– Financial Proposal: should provide cost estimates for services rendered including daily consultancy fees but to exclude accommodation and living costs; transport cost; stationeries, and supplies needed for the training as well as costs to be incurred by trainees.
